My second place for a fast, cheap and good meal in Royal Oak is a fresh-Mex place the locals absolutely swear by. Zumba Mexican Grille has a great feel with traditional Mexican art done up in cool, modern, funky materials. It’s upbeat, it’s casual and all the great tastes of Mexico are served up at a single counter. Brilliant!
Owner Tim Castaneda is the reason this place is the real deal. He grew up in his family’s Mexican restaurant and took all his recipes right off the family tree. It’s real Mexican food that’s fast, fresh and affordable. Zumba is also a place where Royal Oak’s movers and shakers like to connect. Not only does Tim serve up some incredible Mexican chow, he’s also involved and engaged in his community, and that’s a flavor I love.
I’ll be honest—Zumba Mexican Grille is only about a half hour from my house, so when I feel the need for the fresh flavors of Mexico, I zip down to Zumba for my favorite three amigos of food: fast, cheap and good. Heck, if it was twice as far, I’d probably still go there.
