If you want to catch flies, you use a fly trap. But if you want to catch a creative meal in Ferndale, you use The Fly Trap. Gavin McMillian and Kara and Sean McClanaghan own and operate this eclectic little diner, and from the crazy décor to the creative cuisine, these three came up with a winning recipe. Everywhere you look is something that will make you either scratch your head or make you smile. There’s cool art, an array of wacky salt and pepper shakers and a real attention to all the details that make this place a finer diner.
As for the food, you couldn’t get more creative than these folks. The proof is usually in the pudding, but at The Fly Trap, it was in the patrons. Everyone we talked to was beyond passionate for what they serve there. From breakfasts like Green Eggs and Ham and The Cowboy Curtis to dinners like Sean’s Mushroom Fettuccini Bomb and the Fire-Breathing Dragon with grilled chicken, sweet basil and sambal peanut sauce, this casual place is crazy creative. And, for good measure, they even make their own artisan jams, jellies and hot sauces.
Next time you’re in Ferndale… oh heck, if you’re ever anywhere in Michigan, check out The Fly Trap. You’ll get stuck on their food for sure. Get it, stuck? Oh boy.
