SOBO Arts District

Until recently, there was a part of Boyne City that was all but forgotten, before a bunch of local artists and entrepreneurs got together and created what they call SOBO, and it totally changed the landscape. What used to be closed-up storefronts and abandoned buildings is now a thriving and very funky art district, and it’s putting a national and very creative spotlight on Boyne City.

SOBO was inspired by the SOHO art district in lower Manhattan, New York City. In New York, SOHO stands for SOuth of HOuston Street, but in Boyne City it stands for SOuth BOyne. The idea all started with Liz Glass, who thought, “You know, giving this place an identity might help people notice what creative stuff we’re doing here.” And it sure did.
