You know, some things just naturally go together, like peanut butter and jelly and liver and onions. Oh, and those little fish shaped crackers with that yellow cheese that comes out of a can. Mmmmmm… But when we were in Flint, we found a place that blew our minds. How about this combination: antiques and deli food. I know; it hurts just thinking about it. But at Hoffman’s Deco Deli & Café… it hurts real good!
Hoffman’s is the creative conglomeration of Mark Hoffman, his brother Heath and their father Nick. Upfront, it’s a first-class, funky art deco deli that serves awesome sandwiches, salads and wraps. And in the back is an explosion of antiques the likes of which I’ve never seen before. It’s crazy. It’s wonderfully weird… and it totally works!
I have to say that this really is one of the funkiest, coolest places I’ve ever been to. And Nick, Mark and Heath are three of the coolest dudes you’ll ever meet. Hoffman’s has become the place for Flint’s urbanites to eat, kick back and connect. The day we were there they even had an “Under the Radar” wrap on the menu. Nice!
As for Nick’s Antique Emporium in the back, my wife Cathy is an antique aficionado and a classic clothing connoisseur. I took her to Hoffman’s and her exact words were, “This place is to die for.” The collection of collectables there is first class.
This is two generations working hard and thinking outside the box to make Flint a better place for the next generation. If you like good people, positive energy, great food and awesome antiques all smershed together, there’s only one place I know of: Hoffmann’s Deco Deli & Café.
