When was the last time you went out, looked up at the night sky and stared at the stars? I know, with all the light pollution we have now days, they’re kinda hard to see. Well, guess what? We’ve got a place right here in Michigan where you can not only see’m you can celebrate’m too.
I’m talking about the Headlands International Dark Sky Park just west on Mackinaw City. At this 600 acre wooded preserve along the Lake Michigan shoreline, these celestial beacons – are bountiful. It’s one of only a handful of parks like it in the entire world, and the heavens shine bright here simply because of the lack of light in the area.
Mary Adams is quite simply star struck. She’s a star lore historian, storyteller and author who’s been immersed in the history of star knowledge for over 30 years. She also happens to be The Program Director here at the park and our personal gateway to the stars …
This entire place was absolutely amazing … and the trip up to see the giant telescope was one of the coolest things I’ve done on a long time. If it’s a clean night … and you wanna have stars in ‘your’ eyes, check out the night sky at the Headlands International Dark Sky Park.
Oh, and the first star you see, don’t forget to make a wish … I did … I’m just afraid to take my hat off to see if it worked.
