“When Can We Stop?”
Story Behind the Name
You know that here at UTR headquarters we like to eat. On this trip up to the U.P., we hit the road and no sooner were we just past Flint, but the calls from the backseat were, “I’m hungry” and “When are we going to eat?” So we pulled the car over and found ourselves in Hemlock. The rest is TV history.
Hemlock
Well, it was time for another UTR U.P. adventure, so we loaded up the car, headed north, and, well, you know us—we got hungry. So we pulled off I-75 around Saginaw (we think)… got lost… (not unusual)… almost ran out of gas (pretty typical) and stumbled onto a place near Hemlock that’s as unique as it is good.
Escanaba
After filling up both our tummies and the car, we headed north and in no time at all we were crossing the mighty Mackinac Bridge. It’s there that we made our decision where we were going in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. We decided that since Escanaba was only two and a half hours west, that’s where we’d head. Remember, nothing is too far if you’re having fun in the car.
If you never saw the movie or play “Escanaba in the Moonlight,” don’t worry about it because we’re gonna show you what it looks like during the daylight.
Escanaba is another great reason to love Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It’s eleven city blocks of great businesses, shops and restaurants that lead right down to the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. It’s the good life, U.P. style. Now a lot of people are opening new breweries here in Michigan. Well, we met someone who’s using an old brewery to help change an entire town.
As for Escanaba in the sunlight, what more can I say? It’s another great Michigan place to be!
