“The Sand is EVERYwhere!”
Story Behind the Name
Ever tried to vacuum sand out of your car after a trip to the beach? Try it after a trip to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. WITH TOM! How does sand get on the head liner? Jim is still vacuuming his car out.
Silver Lake
Silver Lake was nominated by Travel & Leisure as one of America’s “Best Little Beach Towns,” and when you go there, you’ll see why. The town is surrounded by mountains of sand, miles of pristine beaches and tons of fun stuff to do and great places to stay. If you’re looking to manufacture some marvelous family memories, this is a Michigan stop you must make.
I was so overwhelmed with the funness of this place that I decided to rename Silver Lake “Extreme Family Funville USA.” From go-karts and mini golf to ziplining and jet skis, they have everything for family fun there, but the big attraction is the sand: miles and miles of it. It’s like the world’s coolest sand box surrounded by water, and it’s all there for you to play in.
Believe it or not, these are also the only sand dunes east of Utah that you can actually drive your own vehicle on… now that’s pretty cool. People from all over the world bring all kinds of customized (and even some not so customized) vehicles there to challenge the sand. Yep… believe it or not… this is in Michigan!
Midland
Next we headed for what I’m now calling “the Middle Earth of Michigan.” People told me I’d like Midland, and I really do. It’s a sophisticated small city with first-class places to stay, a variety of businesses to explore and no shortage of places to get good food. And when you’ve got incredibly beautiful and historic neighborhoods right downtown, you’ve got a perfect place to park yourself. If you’re looking for lifestyle, look no further.
If you’re looking for a great Michigan city to settle into, come to Midland. After all, Santa’s even got a place there.
