“I Lost a Quarter at the White House”
Story Behind the Name
With a floor that is sloped in four directions, that seemingly forms a bowl in the center, when you drop a quarter, it’s gone. Tom still talks about that lost quarter like it saved him in the war. It was his favorite quarter, and now it’s somewhere in Clare.
Saginaw
Saginaw is a city with great history, architecture, culture and awesome natural beauty. The park system is outstanding and the surrounding neighborhoods are full of active and involved people who love their city and like where it’s headed.
Next we hit Saginaw’s old town, because we at UTR figured out real quick that’s where cool restaurants are popping up all across Michigan. And besides, you know us—we like to eat.
A wise man once said, “Art will save us.” I don’t know who he was, but he must have known Eric Schantz. Eric is a street artist and muralist who is putting a positive and creative face on many of Saginaw’s structures. His fascinating images and explosions of color instantly grab your attention. After he’s got it, his hope is to convey a sense that people care and that progress is being made. City art is giving a lot of people in Saginaw renewed energy and hope for the future. It’s all part of the renaissance that’s happening there.
Eric’s an artist who could go anywhere, but Saginaw is the city he loves, and he loves showing it with art. Next time you’re there, look around. Eric just might put a smile on your face.
Saginaw is an awesome city and we had a blast there. You should really go check it out for yourself real soon. If you do, please let me know. I need you to pick up a loaf of Spatz bread for my neighbor Jim.
Clare
If you’re looking for a beautiful Americana type town to live in, Clare is the Mayberry of Michigan. It’s clean, quaint, comfortable and full of rich history and friendly folks. It’s the kind of place where people are born, grow up and never leave because it’s so darn nice. It truly is quintessential small town America where people aspire to live.
If you’re looking for a place with great neighborhoods, good schools, a beautiful downtown and fun stuff to do, I have just one thing to declare… oh, I already said it… Clare!
