Baabaazuzu is another great innovative Michigan success story. They make one-of-a-kind fashion creations out of castaway wool sweaters that are destined for a landfill. It may sound simple at first, but a lot of Michigan creativity and ingenuity goes into the process. Sue and Kevin Burns created Baabaazuzu and are now exporting their crazy creations around the world.

It all started with a laundry error at home when Kevin accidentally dried a whole load of wool sweaters. (Been there. Done that.) Sue got creative when she decided to make lemonade out of lemons by cutting up and making matching hats and mittens out of the shrunken sweaters for their little girls. That’s when the proverbial light bulb went on over her head, and now she and her incredible staff are turning yesterday’s wool garments into today’s high fashion.

Everything they make is cut, sewn and assembled by human hands right at Baabaazuzu. It’s so amazing to think that every single piece of clothing they make is a completely unique, one-of-a-kind reclaimed creation. No two things are alike and they make all kinds of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories.

At Baabaazuzu, they like to say that when you wear their apparel, you’ll never, ever pass yourself on the street. I’m not even sure that’s possible anyway, but I do know one thing for sure. This stuff is funky, cool, colorful and it’s made right here in Michigan.
