If you want to live somewhere that has a great sense of place, you really need green spaces to make you feel alive. And that’s why The Greening of Detroit is so important to the rebirth of this great city. The Greening of Detroit is more than just a philosophy; it’s an actual movement and nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to making Detroit a better and greener place to live.
This unique organization plants trees, revitalizes city parks, creates jobs for the community, mentors young people and helps Detroit neighborhoods come alive with people who care and share this experience.
Detroit was once known as “the city of trees,” and this green machine is helping make that a reality once again. They’re helping to transform the city from a post-industrial urban center into a healthier, safer and greener environment by planting well over eighty thousand new trees.
If you live anywhere near Detroit, the Greening of Detroit is always looking for eager volunteers like you to get involved. If you don’t live near Detroit, feel free to find or even start your own community volunteer action group. Getting involved and giving back to your community is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do. So, if you can… do it!
