So many people told us that we just had to visit the iconic Redford Theater in Detroit that we did just that. And are we glad we did. Describing the theater is easy… I just use the phrase, “Holy Cow, what an incredible place.” It’s a true Detroit treasure that’s been brought back to its glory days by an army of passionate volunteers who keep this classic theater alive and well. This theater totally takes you back to a time when going to the movies was a pretty special event. Everything from the organist who warms up the crowd before the movie to the throwback prices at the concession counter make this theater a great place for the whole family.

The Redford Theater also hosts special events where they feature classic movies and actually bring in some of the stars from that movie to answer questions about the film and sign autographs. The night we were there, the special feature was the classic children’s film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, so we got to meet Peter Ostrum and Paris Themmen… aka Charley and TV Mike. They look a little different now. 🙂

Meeting these two guys and the whole evening totally made me feel like a kid again. If you really want to experience some movie magic, take your family to the Redford Theater. And who knows? After the movie, you just might meet a big-time celebrity.
