If you can take something old and use it to help make an entire city new again, you’re doing something right in my book. And that’s exactly what they did when they opened Lafayette Place Lofts in Downtown Pontiac. They took an old building and turned it into cool, multi-use urban apartments and retail space that’s turning heads all across the region.

This totally renovated building originally opened in 1929 as a Sears Department Store. After servicing the community for many years, the eighty-thousand square-foot building’s exterior has been historically restored while the interior has been modernized, LEED certified and turned into upscale urban apartments where almost everything you need is at your fingertips.

If you’re looking for a shining example of urban renewal and revitalization, this is it. At Lafayette Place they’ve got all the amenities the new urban dweller needs right in the building, from a gourmet fresh foods market and fitness center to banking and entertainment.

Lafayette Place lofts has also partnered with Grace Centers of Hope, a faith-based outreach organization that helps homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families. Together they employ many of those less fortunate in our society, giving them a chance to renew their lives and reclaim their place in the community. A noble act indeed!

Like a lot of cities in America, Pontiac fell on hard times, but now, thanks to recent developments like Lafayette Place Lofts, the time is right to reconnect with downtown Pontiac. Young professionals are moving in, and this part of Michigan is moving up.
