When we were in Ann Arbor last time, Ari Weinzweig over at Zingerman’s told us about a place we really needed to check out. Kerrytown Market is a collection of historic buildings that have been renovated, connected and turned into a great place to shop, eat or just spend the afternoon.

Kerrytown is a great gathering place for the entire community. It creates a genuine sense of place for the people who live in this area. It’s also a great place to shop for fresh produce, meet for coffee or lunch, or even shop for clothing and specialty items. The atmosphere is inviting and the layout is perfect for wandering and wondering.

Now, this is really cool. At the top of the familiar bell-tower at Kerrytown sits a very special seven-ton musical instrument! It’s a chime made up of seventeen bells. Ten of the bells were originally cast in the 1920s for a church in Massachusetts. But the other seven bells were specially made in the Netherlands for Kerrytown back in 1997. But that’s not the really cool part. What’s cool is that on certain days, they actually let you play the bells. I did it. Just don’t ask me how it sounded.
