If you’re the kind of person who likes the wild life, Detroit’s Downriver area is actually the perfect place to be. That’s because it’s home to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge… nearly six thousand acres of islands and coastal wetlands that stretch forty-eight miles along the Detroit River and Western Lake Erie shoreline.

This former industrial area and brown field has been completely transformed back to its pristine and natural condition. Standing there now, you get to experience these coastal forests and wetland just as the Native Americans did hundreds of years ago. It really is an incredibly natural, beautiful and serene place to explore.

After spending some time there, not only will you realize what a great place this is to be, you’ll also start to understand why places like this are so important to all of us.
