Since 1978, this place has been one of the biggest institutions in Ann Arbor, and it’s not even part of the university. It’s actually a restaurant called Afternoon Delight, and people have been passionate about it for generations. When we were there we even talked to a woman who drove three hours just to have their corned beef hash.

No matter what the weather is like, every Saturday and Sunday morning, people stand in line (sometimes up to an hour and a half) just to have breakfast or lunch there. Why? Because owner Tom Hackett is totally committed to making everything at the restaurant fresh and real. If you don’t believe me, just try the muffins. They’re Tom’s original recipe and they haven’t changed in over three decades because they’re simply perfect.

Back in the late 70s, Afternoon Delight was the first restaurant in Ann Arbor to offer what some people call “California fresh.” They specialize in fresh salads, sandwiches and great breakfasts. If you’re looking for a little afternoon delight, you’ll be delighted with what you find.
